Our Story
Araffura functional art stools are made of handcrafted million year old Indonesian Wetland Teakwood (radiocarbon dating) and is considered the finest and most valuable type of teakwood which indicates the “fossil” wetland wood type of some rare areas of Indonesian swamps, where minerals and water have started the semi-fossilization process of the submerged trees. Currents bind the minerals and iron in the water with tannins in the wood, naturally hardening and coloring the wood in the process. This is clearly visible on the chromatics scale of the woodgrain - with always unique shades. It is renowned for its rich golden-brown color, tight grain, and exceptional durability. Indonesian Teak is often favored in high-end furniture making, due to its stunning appearance and superior resistance to decay, making it ideal for both indoor/outdoor furniture and marine applications.
